AFGANISTAN- Following the trend of popular television shows
such as “Sex in the City” and “The Sopranos”,
Osama bin Laden has announced he will be releasing his entire
first season on DVD. In addition to the 26-30 minute episodes,
the package will also include audio commentary by bin Laden
and director Riva Ghassan Faheem, music videos, previously
unseen footage, as well as a 45 minute “bloopers”
segment. It is being distributed by Al-Arabiya Television
Productions in association with Sony Home Video. The DVD is
due in stores on May 11th.
Bin
Laden has continued to baffle U.N. forces by staying one step
ahead of their searches, releasing a series of tapes that
offer both rewards for the killing of top U.N. Officials,
as well as cryptic messages to his terrorists groups. His
latest tape, offering 22 pounds of gold for the killing of
Coalition Provisional Authority Head Paul Bremer as well as
top U.S. Officials. That tape, however, will not be released
as part of the first season DVD, but will be included in the
“Season Two” DVD, to be released in spring of
2005.
The release of the DVD has not been welcomed by all. Walmart
and several other retailers have decided not to sell the DVD
because of the racy cover, showing bin Laden and a cardboard
cut out of U.S. President George W. Bush, dressed in high
heels and fish net stockings, in a compromising position.
The title “All My Best” is placed directly over
President Bush’ back. Amazon.com is taking advanced
orders for the DVD for $19.99, the list price will be $29.99.
